In supporting our drive for fresh produce, 2009 has also saw the introduction of our very own Hotel farm. The farm forms part of a larger plan to breathe new life into two acres of walled garden. The hotel currently has 3 pigs, 22 chickens and 5 geese. These are housed in our walled garden which when completed later this year will have an outside barbeque area, herb & vegetable garden and landscaped walled gardens for you to enjoy.
Our 3 pigs arrived in May 2009. Commonly referred to as 'The Girls' by staff members they were saved from slaughter from a local butcher and are cross breeds of large white and land race which have a strong capability to live in all weather conditions. Living with the pigs are our 5 embden geese which as well as producing delicious free range eggs are excellent in maintaining the paddock grasses.
The chicken house sits next to our pig enclosure housing 20 large red, laying hens and 2 silky bantam cockerels. The chickens arrived in April 2009, with hardly a feather between them and are now producing the finest quality free range eggs which are enjoyed by all during breakfast service but are also an excellent ingredient in our home made desserts and ice cream.
All our Guests are now able to enjoy our rejuvenated walled garden area and make that personal acquaintance with our expanding animal population.
